Like our other Open Air loudspeakers, the Edge is a self-powered, digitally optimized, virtually plug-n-play loudspeaker system. Plug-in your computer and/or streaming module to start. It’s that simple!
With Open Air, bass becomes more natural, with less room interaction. High and mid drivers reproduce the sound in an almost holographic pattern, which creates a more realistic sound. In such a system, each part is perfectly matched to the next, unlike standard audio systems built from disparate components. You can HEAR and FEEL it when listening to an Open Air Edge loudspeaker system.
In these Open Air designs, we need to perfectly control the driver’s behaviour, so the only solution was to build active loudspeaker systems. The Edge comes with sophisticated digital crossovers, a DAC for each frequency band, and individual amplifiers to power each driver. All parts of the system are precisely matched to offer extreme musical precision, time coherence and and the best clarity you can get.
- One or two sliced cone 156mm (6-inch) mid/bass driver featuring an extremely large linear excursion (13mm – 0.5inch),
- One Scan Speak Illuminator tweeter,
- One long-throw, one-inch linear excursion, thirteen-inch (34cm) bass driver to reproduce the lowest registers of bass with incomparable speed and accuracy.
The Scan speak Illuminator tweeter provides excellent imaging at all positions and its frequency response reaches 30 kHz. Both mid-bass and bass drivers offer extreme linear cone excursion to sustain the high demands of the A.I.R. architecture.
All drivers are perfectly integrated in time and phase, with no baffle to restrict high and mid frequency dispersion. The result is an incredibly airy and large soundstage that seems to float into the room. Some call it holographic acoustics and indeed The Edge gives that feeling of really being at the concert or in the studio with the artist.
Our Analog Devices SHARC DSP is used to optimize each driver’s amplitude, impulse, time and phase response. it sports eight 32-bit/768kHz SOA AKM4495 DACs.
Hypex NCORE™ amplifiers are directly connected to each drivers’ voice coils. Without any power-robbing, phase-shifting, passive crossover parts in the signal path, The Edge delivers blindingly fast sound reproduction and lifelike immediacy.
The CCU accepts connections through balanced/unbalanced analog, S/PDIF coax IN and OUT, XMOS USB Class 2.
